About this event

11th Annual Symposium on Women in Leadership and Ministry (WILAM): Dream for God's Peace in the City

What does it look, feel, and sound like to dream for God’s peace in the city? How might we participate in possibilities of goodness and shalom in the places we call home? In a tumultuous season of uncertainty across the city, nation, and world, it might be difficult to imagine dreaming with hope and aspiration for the flourishing of our selves, our homes, our communities, and our city.

At the 11th Annual Symposium on Women in Leadership and Ministry (WILAM 2023), we invite you to reflect, to lament, to be restored, and to dream. Enter into prayer, worship, contemplation, rest, and life-giving activity. Cultivate a practice of wonder.

Dare to dream again.

“I've told you all this so that trusting me, you will be unshakable and assured, deeply at peace. In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I've conquered the world.” (John 16:33, MSG).

11th Annual Symposium on Women in Leadership and Ministry: Dream for God's Peace in the City

Morning session includes prayer, worship, and individual and corporate reflection on the theme of dreaming for God's peace for ourselves, our communities, our city, and our world.

Afternoon workshop options include:

Kintsugi Repair with Maria Liu Wong

Make things beautiful that are broken through the Japanese art of “kintsugi.” Bring a broken ceramic object you would like to repair with epoxy and gold pigment as you engage in this meditative, reparative healing practice.

Sketching Your Dream with Lourdes de la Cruz

What is your dream for the city? For the new year? Lourdes will lead participants in a time of creative expression using color pencils on paper.

Afternoon Tea with Beverly Grubb and Naomi Lawrence

Enjoy a “cuppa” with NYC Brits Bev and Naomi. Engage in the ministry of presence with others as you relax and unwind with good tea and good company.

“Your Body is a Temple” with Olivia Ghaw

“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23. Join us as we explore how to worship God through our physical posture, both in meditation and fitness.

You'll also have the option for Quiet Individual Time if you choose.

We will have a culminating Making and Dreaming Together activity led by Eunice Chang-Anderson and Naomi Lawrence. This involves learning the Japanese "sashiko" method of mending, using a running stitch to create simple or complex patterns with single or multiple layers of fabric to make it stronger. Individual pieces will be sewn together for a community piece.
